Artist's Comments
This is a landlocked version of the Sockeye Salmon called the "Kokanee" When preparing to spawn, they grow a hump, and get a severe "kype", the hooks on the jaws.
Females lack the hump, but have the same brilliant red color. They aren't edible when they are like this, as they are literally rotting while alive. Their flesh becomes mushy and soft due to fungal infections. |
